With all the GE getting all the attention, Back with A Shout

What's the heck is all this GE about.. Opposition is shooting Questions and PAP is answering questions, and after which, vice versa. I thought election should be kept confidential? But it seems more like influential now..

I have heard "almost" everyone saying the cons of what PAP have done so far.. But, what is WE to judge have they done a good job.. I just want to stay neutral and not being influence by others.. There is no rights or wrongs with neither parties.. It's only up to individuals to agree or disagree..

Ok.. Now, people debate that PAP have done a poor job so far and leads to the standard of livings in Singapore becoming higher over the years.. But, how do we know what difficulties they've faced over the years while trying to build on a better livings for us? It will be the same if the opposition won the votes, can they changed the current situations immediately or even the next 2 years? Who can predict the future now? Opposition might also took 5 years for the changed, but if let PAP continued, their current projects and plans sure can continued as planned and finished faster.. To the extend of what opposition said so far, I definitely agrees to that the government should do things more transparently, thus, people likes us knows what to expect for the next few years..

NSP says we nowadays took trains like we are going to holiday.. We can see all type of people from around the world.. I admit to that.. I hate to see so many people of different countries squeezing and sharing the transport with me, BUT, without them, who will filled up the job left unwanted by the Singaporeans? Singaporeans nowadays are too pampered, let's not says about those jobs like cleaners, stall helper, or construction workers.. For some office jobs, some small companies will requires their employees to multi-tasking alot, but some of the Singaporeans just couldn't take it.. Foreign talents which are better equipped were hired in too which caused some Singaporeans to be unhappy.. But, isn't it a sign or warnings to all of us to be better equipped, better educated.. "IF" there were no foreign talents fighting places with Singaporeans for jobs in Singaporeans, do YOU think that you will go and study for Degree or even Master?

In most of the debate/rally that is on going, most common heard topic is certainly the pricing of the houses now.. I really welcome that to be addressed as I have not bought any houses yet... If the housing pricing was dropped, it will definitely be benefiting to me.. And yes, its to me and some of you only.. If the pricing of the housing dropped now, those that have just bought houses, or those already finish paying for the houses will not be the one loses.. Just imagine if they were to sell their houses in near future, they will suffered a loss!! If the houses pricing dropped, those rich people will starts to invest more and buy more houses, in which leads to more houses need to be build, and leads to less land, and Singapore will be short of land in future.. In anyway, i still wish that the house pricing issues can be addressed more tactically..

I think what government do is controlled... Pros and Cons ways.. COE high, all Singaporeans suffered now.. But less people will buy cars, and hence lesser pollutions and save the world for our children.. ERP high really makes no sense.. But if no ERP, everyone starts to travel into town, wouldn't it caused jam too? Why taxi drivers always says "If you want faster, travel by CTE, but will go through ERP.." So, because of ERP, then urgent people can then choose that route to travel.. but if you want faster route, you have to pay the price then..

Those people that loves travelling.. If government is not doing good, the economy will not rise.. If you see, all other countries currency rates is all dropping, but not Singapore, and hence your will enjoy better exchange rates when travelling to others countries.. To add on, when Singapore organise the 1st YOG event, how many Singaporeans are excited about it? Especially when Singapore is bidding it to the last seed between us and Mexico.. Almost everyones want Singapore to win.. But in the end, a huge loss is reported after the event, and people starts to say waste money... What is this contradiction? Although there is a huge loss, but it certainly benefits others like tourism, or recreation, etc.. And we also creates history being the first country to host YOG and it will go down in history..

I have also heard that the populations of Singapore citizen only occupies 57% of the total.. If we don't have those PRs, and foreigners to make up the rest, are those Singapore going to marry now and settle down now? Who leads to all this? It's actually all the Singaporeans nowadays tends to settle down late, and also don't want to give birth so early.. Somemore, those got kids, they only want one or two, and we could filled up the greying populations.. Government already done their part by giving subsidiary and payout for those giving births to encourage more births but none actually want to do it.. If all able to settle down early and give birth to two or three kids, I believe in 20 years time, those foreigners will be gone and most percentage will be Singaporeans...

In more recent case, why do MM Lee need to apologise for the flood caused by heavy rain? It is just a natural disaster that who also can't prevent.. I don't believe anyone of us either can prevent it.. Who will knows when will it happens? But no matter what, can everyone just judge by yourself? Do not discussed with anyone or influence by anyone..

Lastly, I definitely welcome the challenge of all those oppositions as they voiced out and raised all the concerns.. Even now the government have plans, maybe then will they speed it up more..

Swine Flu 2!~ (Singaporean)

Swine is really a headache!~ Safety precaution can be seen anywhere. From working buildiing to school. The most obvious scene seen is temperature control. Office building is starting to engage external contractor to set up station to take temperature for every visitors. Students and employee is also advise to carry a thermometer with them, and monitor their temperature twice a day. Thermal scanner had been setup at Changi International Airport since 27th April. All this measures will interrupt the timely schedule of each and everyone.

The outbreak of this swine flu had seen drop in certain products, but there is also a rise in some products. Recently, the facility team of my company wanted to purchase hand sanitizer for all the staffs. The team faces difficulty in purchasing hand sanitizer as it has been sold out in most of the stores. To date, it is only one week after the outbreak, and the hand sanitizer has been sold out. Besides hand sanitizer, all other products that can kill bacteria such as Dettol is also selling fast. Is Singapore too health concious, or is it due to the attribute of "Kiasu". In this case, i don't really mind Singapore being "Kiasu". This "attribute" can certainly prevent Singapore from being affected.

Swine Flu!~

Let's face it. The swine flu is affecting our life ever since the first break out. It has already reached out to Asia country such as South Korea and Hong Kong. What's come worst is that, the swine flu cannot be detect immediately even if the person is carrying the virus. Furthermore, IT do KILL people as reports already verified.

This is really a tough year for us. People already faces the bad economy now, and the news of this certainly do not help. It is affecting those food industry with "Pork" as their main stream of money income. On top of that, big companies could not travel overseas to meet their clients which may also results in the lost of business. Although teleconference may help to solve this issues, it is certainly not as effective to tie up business in this way.

According to the articles i read so far, people cannot catch swine flu from eating pork products. However, people will still have fear in them. Take Singapore as an example, newspaper in Singapore had reported that there is a drop in those food stall that sell pork based on the research they had done. The reason for the drop may due to the chinese medical name given for the swine flu - "Zhu Liu Gan" in which, "Zhu" stands for pig. The "name" is printed out so big as headlines in Chinese newspapers which will mislead people, especially those that do not read in details. That is the power of media.

I personally think there is a need to change the chinese medical name. The name will definitely will cause some misleading to a small portion of people. The best way so far to prevent the swine flu from spreading is to adopt a healthier hygiene. Wash your hands more thoroughly, use tissues to cover your nose or mouth when you cough or sneeze respectively. Since there is no cure for the virus so far, we all must do our part to prevent causing harms to our love ones.

A friend of mine told me that her parents make sure she only go out where there is school. When i think of this, i felt it's quite true. We cannot ensure who we come in contact with everyday. Especially when we travelled in public transport, there might be a "hidden victim" in it, but we will not know. Unless government announce that work/school to stop functioning for the day, we will still need to travel to work/school. We cannot travel to work/school everyday by cab to avoid the crowd in public transport, but we can do our part to be considerate for others.

Cover your nose or mouth with tissues when you cough or sneeze, do your parts and save the people around us!

Reflection

Finally, i come to the last post for my assignment. I have read more news this month as compared to last. In additional, this is also the first time i am able to express my feelings for those news that i concerned of. I usually thought "blog" is like a dairy or an online shop. I do not see it as a way to offer news to people.

Still remember my early schooling days, my classmates and i normally will meet up and talk about stuffs that happens around us. Some even told us their habits of writing a dairy. Soon, as the technology improved, my friends has change to write their dairy online. After our graduation, we do not meet up that much due to our busy schedule. However, we still managed to know the parts and parcel of the life of each other online.

I deeply appreciate the existence of blog. I started my first blog around six months ago. I don't really like to blog in the first place. My perception changed during that time where my friend died during that month. I am truly remorseful about the sudden death of my friend. I know this friend of mine since 7 years old during schooling days. She was my classmates throughout my primary school days and secondary school days. Soon after our graduation in the year 2001, we were no longer in contact. During June last year, her sudden death shock me, and tears flowing down. All my classmates do not know what had happen as none of us keep in contact with her. During her funeral, 1 of our friend tells us her story. We were all puzzled on how she get the information. By now your should know how. It is "Her" blog that my friend get to know her life in the past. From then on, i appreciate the existent of the blog.

For this "News" weblog, i found out another "interest" in writing the blog. After writing this kind of blog, it allows me to express my personal feelings toward the certain news. It also connects me to other readers with the common interest. Through this blog of mine, i hope to make more friends which share my views. Although criticism is open to public too, but acceptance of criticism will makes one grows. I will continue to update where possible to repay those who visited this blog.

Print Vs Online

Printed designs and online designs can never be the same. As mention in my introduction, web offers interaction between readers and the author, whereas print could not. Why do i say so?

When readers read the contents online, they can straight away comment and discuss the materials with the author or other parties with the same interest. As for print, readers will not write to the author, they will email to the author instead.

Print and online serve the main purpose in providing readers with the intended information. They are also inseparable in some sense.

Newspaper, magazines is convenience and easily available. Some readers surf the net to find more detailed news is only when they read it on newspaper. Newspapers/Magazines do not have that much of pictures as compared to the web, and web are not as convenient to those.

In additional, print are normally well-organised whereas not all web designs is well-organised. Web however offers interactive videos and images which the print don't.

In conclusion, with the correct usage of elements, either one can emerge to be a good medium to offer the readers with the correct information.

People will be able to watch abortion advice during prime time TV?

In Uk, news has been released that advertisement for pregnancy advisory services could be allowed in prime-time evening slots on major TV channels and radio.

This came quite surprisingly as this kind of advertisement is normally banned from the TV media. This is due to the fact of which to protect the youth in receiving the wrong signal.

The sudden decision is made to put a halt on high rates of teenage pregnancy. This indicates to me that teenagers getting pregnant in UK are getting more and more common nowadays, and now, the government is trying to do something about it. One of the solutions they using is by education through media.

Everyone knows the power of media. Through this way, the message can be spread across to the public in the shortest time. As there is more and more teenagers getting pregnant nowadays, hence I felt this move will benefits the public. However, this will also be a double edged sword. Without proper guidance by parents, kids might also receive the wrong signal.

In additional, rules restricting the advertising of condoms on TV could also be relaxed under proposals. With all these new proposals for advertising through TV and radio, advertisers however will not rush into advertising. Adverts must be carefully planned before advertising. It shall not refer woman directly for abortion and also to encourage people to have safe sex. On top of that, the price for advertising during prime time period is costly too.

In conclusion, it will be interesting to see this kind of advertisements during prime time period. With this proposal taken into account, it might also open up to other kinds of advertisements in the future.

STOMP The Power of Technology and Media

STOMP (Straits Times Online Mobile Print) is setup by Straits Times to allow readers to share their views of the news they read. The website of Stomp integrates content and activities in the three platforms of print, online and mobile. It was voted the best online media gold award.

Free access to the website allows Singaporeans to bond together by common interests. Users are able to post photo they taken into the website and discuss on any topics. As you enter the website, there is so many interesting links. The topic I want to discuss here with your is under the link “Singapore Seen”.

In this link, you will be able to see the “True Colors” of some Singaporean. Although it may invades the privacy of the public, but it will also create awareness to the public. This is due to the fact where people could just upload any photos they taken in the street and comments about it. Nowadays, with the availability of cameras, people can just take anything anywhere. People will take cautious of their behaviour in the public to prevent their improper conduct being post online.

In one of the article in Stomp, posted on 24th March this year, the victim in the topic is really an innocent party. She does not know what she did will be posted online and thus ruin her reputation. She might just lose her job because of one incident and this advance technology. This was the price she pays as an educator.

With this features provided by Stomp, it is not hard to see that more people is willing to provide news they discovered. Prize can be won for those who surf the website also helps in creates more news to the public.

I felt Stomp is a good place to gather people of the common interests. It can also create awareness of some inconsiderate act of Singaporean, as well as facts and news that occur recently. It will help Singapore in some way with its impact on the public.
